Peanut Butter and Turmeric Flavoured Dog Biscuits with Carob Drizzle

These easy to make dog biscuits are both gorgeous and delicious! The chicken stock and peanut butter will appeal to the taste buds and they are also full of healthy ingredients! Turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory effects, and the flax seeds contain Omega-3 essential fatty acids (also known as “good fats”) which keep your pup’s heart healthy.

Ingredient List

  • 3/4 cup chicken stock
  • 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of ground flax seeds (see Note below)
  • 1 tablespoon of organic turmeric
  • 1/2 cup organic, smooth peanut butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup carob powder and 1 tablespoon of water, as needed (for the carob drizzle)
  • 1 large ziplock bag (for the carob drizzle)

(Note: I usually buy whole flax seeds at the grocery store and grind them myself by putting them into a food processor or blender.  Blend or process for 30 – 45 seconds on a medium setting, or until seeds are ground into tiny bits).

Directions for preparing the dog biscuits:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Warm the chicken stock (either in the microwave or on the stovetop), set aside.
  3. Combine the flour, brown sugar, flax seeds, and turmeric in a medium sized mixing bowl. Using a fork or dough hook attachment, mix in the chicken stock, peanut butter and egg. Continue to mix until the dough becomes a smooth, round ball. Scrape the sides of the bowl occasionally to make sure the dough is evenly combined.
  4. Sprinkle a small amount of flour on the countertop to prevent the dough from sticking, and roll out the dough to about half-an-inch in thickness. Using your cookie cutters, cut into desired shapes. (Hint: we like these adorable dog bone cookie cutters!) Place the dog biscuits on the prepared cookie sheets.
  5. Bake biscuits for 35-40 minutes, or until the biscuits are dry throughout, and relatively hard. Baking time may vary based on the shape and size of each biscuit. Let the biscuits cool completely on a cooling rack.
  6. Once the biscuits are cooled completely, drizzle the carob mixture (directions below) over top in a diagonal pattern, and let the carob drizzle dry completely (pictured below).

Directions for preparing the carob drizzle:

  1. Place carob powder into a bowl.
  2. Slowly add water, stirring often, until the consistency of the drizzle is thick but still runs off the spoon.
  3. Place the corner of a ziplock bag in a tall glass, and fill with the carob mixture. Close the bag and cut a small hole in the corner of the bag.

Dogs cannot eat chocolate – it is poisonous to them – never feed your dog chocolate. Instead, carob is a great dog-friendly alternative, and is the perfect accent to add to  these delicious dog biscuits!
